My Life Style Change

in Fat

Introduction

I never watched my health when I was young. I was one of those youngsters who felt I would live forever. I did not eat right, did not like to exercise, smoked and drank. But when I was 35, I became exhausted just mowing the lawn. So I examined my life style and made some dramatic changes, almost a full right turn.

I quit smoking, reduced by alcohol intake, changed my diet and started exercising.

Smoking

This was the real tough part. It took several years to completely stop. I determined that my will power was not that great. I finally quit by using the patch. When I started using it I quit completely almost immediately.

Diet

I did not go overboard on my life style diet change, but I started eating less meat and increased my intake of fish and poultry. Also more fruits and vegetables, whole grains and polyunsaturated fats.

The best thing I did on this diet was to reduce my intake of saturated fats and changed to unsaturated fats. What I had learned was that cells use fats to build cell walls. If the cells use saturated fats, the cell walls are rigid, which makes the abortion of nutrients and discharge of wastes difficult. Using unsaturated fats the cell walls become more fluid, allowing for easier absorption of nutrients and discharge of wastes.

To get more unsaturated fats, I also started taking fish oil supplements to get the essential fatty acids that the body needs but cannot produce itself.

The major lifestyle change I did was marry a vegetarian, that step really improved my diet and life.

Exercise

I hated exercising when I was young, but started anyway. I became an exercise nut and started believing that work got in the way of me exercising.

I began running 10-kilometer road races, which is 6.2 miles. I started this program by jogging quarter mile per day, then gradually increasing to half- mile then a mile till I could run six miles.

I also started lifting weights, not to bulk up, but to just become firm. I alternated the different parts of the body. For example, one-day shoulder and chest, next day arms, and the next legs.

Results

I lowered my body weight by 25 pounds and obtained a body fat content of 6%. Plus I felt a lot better.

Conclusion

If you are looking to improve your health and look better, then look at your life style. You may want to follow my lifestyle change plan. But you cannot have my wife.
